+Indicator Methodology
County health outcomes rankings are calculated by equally weighting mortality and morbidity measures. Mortality data is derived from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/index.htm ) and includes the Premature death—Years of Potential Life Lost before age 75 (YPLL-75) rate. Morbidity data is sourced from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) (https://www.cdc.gov/brfss/index.html ), which contributes metrics such as the percent of adults reporting fair or poor health (10% weight), mean physically unhealthy days per month for adults (10% weight), and mean mentally unhealthy days per month for adults (10% weight). Additionally, the percent of live births with low birthweight (less than 2500 grams), also provided by Vital Statistics from NCHS, contributes 20% to the morbidity measure. The data sources for these calculations may vary slightly each year; for detailed information, please refer to https://www.countyhealthrankings.org/health-data/methodology-and-sources/data-documentation .
