+Indicator Methodology
The Total Number of Weeks a County was in Drought by Year is determined by analyzing weekly drought data from the United States Drought Monitor (USDM) (https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/About/WhatistheUSDM.aspx#:~:text=What%20is%20the%20USDM%20%20%20%20,6%20to%2010%20%202%20more%20rows%20 ). For each year, every week is checked to see if more than half of a county was in at least moderate drought, categorized as D1 or higher by USDM standards. These weeks are counted over the year to get the total number of weeks that the county was in drought. This total gives an annual count of the drought-affected weeks for a specific county.
